As June draws to a close, it seems fair to say that this year the old Oklahoma! lyric was right on target. Activity at Arts Center Task Force has certainly been “busting out all over.” Several important initiatives continue to move forward, and I would like to share a few highlights.
One of our primary areas of focus this spring has been the feasibility study for improvements to the REACH Amphitheater. As that work begins to wrap up, we are encouraged by what we have learned. The study has highlighted opportunities to enhance the venue’s ability to serve audiences, artists, and community organizations, while conversations with community members have revealed strong interest in bringing more performances and events to the space.
ACTF is also continuing to explore ways to bring additional arts and cultural programming to the community using existing venues. We have been meeting with local organizations and potential partners to identify opportunities for new performances, educational activities, and community events. We are particularly pleased to support Academy of Children’s Theatre’s upcoming July improv weekend by helping promote their event and hosting community workshops in the ACTF Studio. Partnerships such as this help expand opportunities for artistic learning and engagement throughout the region.
We have also begun working with a consultant to help clarify ACTF’s role in strengthening arts and culture throughout the region and better communicate our mission and community impact.
To support these and other activities, we have recently enhanced the ACTF Studio with some new lighting and repurposed equipment from our virtual programming efforts during the pandemic. Our goal is to create a welcoming gathering space for small community groups, creative projects, and educational programs, and we are pleased that organizations are already beginning to take advantage of the space. In May, ACTF hosted the Badger Club for a community forum on wildfire preparedness and response. More recently, we provided our studio and technical support for a piano recital featuring the students of Jill Gilbert.
Finally, we hope many of you will join us for our Ice Cream Social at the ACTF Studio on Saturday, June 27, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. The event is an opportunity for friends and supporters of ACTF to gather, reconnect, enjoy a summer treat, and learn more about the projects and initiatives currently underway.
